Terms and Conditions
By engaging Alex Kempsell to proofread, edit, or critique your work; ghostwrite or write copy; or any of the other services he offers, you agree to the following conditions:
A price for the job will be agreed before work begins. Should further material be added to the work (such as extra chapters) by the client, an additional charge for that will be applied based on the initial price.
A deadline date will be mutually agreed upon, if needed.
In the unlikely event that a deadline has to change (severe illness, bereavement, technical issues, etc.), the client will be contacted as soon as possible with a revised date.
All work will be done by qualified writer/editor Alex Kempsell, unless explicitly stated otherwise. He does not subcontract to anyone else without the client’s knowledge.
If the client are unsatisfied with my work for any reason, they are encouraged to reach out and explain so that attempts can be made to rectify the situation. Please bear in mind that while every attempt will be made to return an error-free document, perfection is impossible to achieve. It is strongly advised that the client read through the edited version themselves and makes sure they are happy with it before publishing.
Copyediting or proofreading includes one round of checking any minor changes implemented following the initial completion of service. It does not include another check of the whole manuscript. Any further large-scale changes will be charged at the same hourly rate as the original job.
Some revisions will be allowed for any copywritten or ghostwritten work, within reason. If major rewrites are requested, the client may be charged for the additional time commitment.
The client’s name and link to their book’s sales page may appear on Alex Kempsell’s website and social media. If you do not want this, please state this ahead of time.
All work will be kept confidential.
A backup copy of the client’s work will be kept (unless asked otherwise) securely, both original and edited, for at least six months in case of failure with the client’s system.
While Alex will try to point out any potential legal issues, the author is responsible for ensuring that the manuscript is appropriate for publication. He can accept no liability for any action raised as a result of incorrect or defamatory material.
