Editorial Assessment

If you want general feedback from a professional, without focusing on the book’s individual scenes, an editorial assessment is the way to go. With this service, I’ll read through your manuscript and take note of story elements such as plot, character, setting, theme, and the like. Once I’m done reading, I’ll write up my feedback and suggestions in a few pages. Simple and straightforward, this service is great for writers who want guidance on their story but aren’t quite ready to have the individual scenes picked apart yet.
Developmental Edit
$0.02 per word
The most common storytelling service offered by editors, developmental editing has the same concept as an editorial assessment, but taken a step further. With this service, in addition to the assessment letter, I’ll leave comments with feedback on specific moments throughout the story. The focus of the edit is on storytelling aspects such as character, plot, theme, pacing, and the like—but will also include some writing aspects. This is the most comprehensive edit you can get; perfect for authors who have taken their manuscripts through several drafts already and want to know how to improve it even more.

Copy Edit

This is what people typically think of when it comes to editing. Copy editing involves diving deep into your manuscript and weeding out any grammatical issues such as punctuation, spelling, and the like. I’ll make sure your book is up to the standards set by the Chicago Manual of Style—and, more importantly, up to yours! This service is perfect for authors who want to get their manuscript looking professional and ready to share with the world.
Line Edit
$0.01 per word
Where copy editing is more technical, line editing is more artistic. It’s less about being grammatically “correct” and more about the readability for your readers, the translation from the page to their imaginations. I’ll go through your manuscript line by line and smooth out any sentences that need it. Perhaps a sentence’s meaning is unclear and needs to be rephrased, a word choice could be stronger, or a a couple lines should be flipped. I’ll make adjustments with a focus on clarity, flow, word choice, tone, and more—all while maintaining your unique voice!

I get it—editing is expensive. There’s no two ways about it. Worth it? Of course. But expensive nonetheless.
To make these indispensable services a little easier on the wallet, I’ve started offering my clients options for payment plans. Editing clients can divide the cost of a service into six monthly payments or less. As soon as all payments have been made, I’ll send the completed work right away. Depending on the work plan (which is negotiated during the contract phase), I may even provide screenshots of the work that’s been done so far, so my clients can have the comfort of knowing that what they’re paying for is on the way.
